Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
WHO OPERATES A CUB SCOUT PACK?
A: Cub Scouting is made available to groups having similar
interests and goals, which include professional organizations, government
bodies, and religious, educational, civic, fraternal, business,
labor, and citizens' groups. These are called our chartered organizations.
Each organization appoints one of its members as a chartered organization
representative. The organization, through the committee, is responsible
for leadership, the meeting place, and related materials for pack
activities. Parents of the Cub Scouts generally volunteer as Cubmaster,
Pack Committee Chairman, Den Leaders, and Assistant Den Leaders.
Q:
WHAT ARE THE AGE RANGES FOR CUB SCOUTS
A: Cub Scouts basically follows the school grade system:
| Tiger
Cubs - 1st Grade |
| Wolf
- 2nd Grade |
| Bear
- 3rd Grade |
| Webelos
1 - 4th Grade |
| Webelos

Q:
CAN SIBLINGS ATTEND PACK FUNCTIONS?
A: Absolutely! Cub Scouts is about family. We encourage
brothers, sisters, parents and even grandparents to attend pack
functions.
Q:
WHERE DO I PLACE THE PATCHES ON THE UNIFORM?
A: This link will help
with patch placement.
Q:
WHERE CAN I GET CUB SCOUT UNIFORMS?
A: Uniforms can be purchased at the Alamo Area Council's
Musselman Scout Shop, located at 2226 N.W. Military Hwy in San Antonio,
Texas.
Q:
WHEN CAN MY SON JOIN CUB SCOUTS?
A: You can join our pack at any time! It is never too late
to join. All of the programs are geared for a specific age and each
boy will be in dens with boys his own age.
Q:
I'M REALLY BUSY. DO I NEED TO STAY AND HELP OR CAN I JUST DROP OFF
MY SON?
A: Cub Scouting is really a family activity. All family
members are invited to just about everything we do. The only way
that Cub Scouting will help your family is to have your whole family
involved. Every single leader of the pack is a volunteer. We expect
every adult to help out with some aspect of pack leadership. If
we all work together, it is really easy and is more fun for everyone.
Q:
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PACKS, DENS AND TROOPS?
A:
A Den is a smaller group of boys. All of
the dens combine to form the Pack. This is the whole group of Cub
Scouts in Pack 310. A Troop is the Boy Scout equivalent of a Pack.
Q:
DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO BE A CUB SCOUT WITH PACK 310?
A:
Yes, there is a one-time registration fee
of approximately $10.00 to join Cub Scout Pack 310. This is actually
a pro-rated amount, assuming the child joins at the start of the
school year. There is an additional optional fee $10.80 if you decide
to subscribe to Boy's Life magazine. After the first
year, the Pack 310 fundraisers will cover the annual registration
dues.
Each den may charge dues for crafts or other activities.
These dues are agreed upon by all members of the den and usually
don't exceed a few dollars per month. We try our best to make sure
that we are not constantly going back to the families asking for
more money. Some events and outings may be at an additional charge.
Our pack fundraisers help subsidize some of these costs.
Q: DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN A BUNCH
OF FUNDRAISERS?
A:
We only have two fundraisers per year: Popcorn
Sales and the Chicken BBQ Dinner. Without participation in these
fundraisers, we would need to ask for more money from the families
and/or adjust our programs.
